Baron Counseling FAQs

How many years of experience do you have?
I have twenty-five years of clinical experience with adults, adolescents and children.
Counseling & Therapy for Adults, Adolescents and Children
What are your office hours?
I offer daytime, evening and weekend hours. I will work to the best of my ability to suit your schedule.
Do you take insurance?
I will discuss your financial situation with you as we set a fee that is appropriate for your situation. I am on several insurance panels including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Aetna, and United Healthcare.
Who else will know what we talk about?
I strictly follow the National Association of Social Worker guidelines in terms of confidentiality. Nothing about your treatment will be discussed with any professional unless you have signed and dated a release of information form. If you are in danger to yourself or someone else I would be legally mandated to contact one of your family members. We would discuss this at the beginning of your counseling with me, and at that time I would get a name or two and phone numbers to put in your chart, which will be kept in a locked file.
What if I want to talk about medication?
Social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists can all provide counseling, while only psychiatrists and other physicians can prescribe medication. I have multiple relationships with other physicians, including a psychiatrist who works in my office. I would be happy to give you his information, in addition to other professionals if that would be helpful to you.
What if at some point I want you to meet any of my family members?
We would discuss this in our counseling session to decide if it would be helpful to you. I have seen client's spouses, parents, siblings, children, etc. when it is requested of me and seems clinically appropriate.
How long are your sessions?
I often meet with clients from 50-60 minutes per session. Sometimes you may need to come in twice in a week if you are going through a particularly difficult time, or if you are working on an issue that you want to pay closer attention to.
How soon can you schedule me from the time that I call or email you?
I will try to get you in for your first appointment within five days of the time that you call. If it is an emergency, it will certainly be sooner.
Can you do phone sessions?
My preference is for us to meet in person. This is very important for the counseling process. Occasionally we can check in by phone, and you may certainly call me if you are ill or out of town. Our predominant contact needs to be in person.
How will I know when it is time to end my counseling experience? How many sessions will I need to attend?
We will discuss this together. As you start to feel better and the problems that you came in for seem to be improving, that may be the time to begin the discussion. I will be honest with you about where I see things at that time. There is no set amount of time; it depends on how it feels for you.
